Quit Smoking for Your Health and Success

January 2nd, 2010

If you have grown up in the last 30 years, you have been taught that smoking cigarettes is bad for your health. We’ve learned how it is directly tied in to lung cancer and emphysema. We’ve also learned some other common side effects. Bad breath, smelly clothes, and the fact that now public smoking is banned all over the place.

So why do young teens and adults continue to pick up the habit and keep smoking? Well, for one, it is still one of the naughty things that a kid can sneak behind their parents backs. And kids can sometimes find a group of fellow smokers at their school or part-time jobs and the cigarette provides a false bond between these people.

But what about the cost of smoking? In New York, for example, a pack of cigarettes will set you back around $ 7. Smoke a pack a day and that adds up to $ 200 a month. I could pay my utility bill with that kind of money. Add that up over the course of a year and you would have about $ 2400. Not a bad little nest egg every year.

And the poor health. Smokers face greater health costs as they grow older. From nagging coughs and higher rates of respiratory infections to the dreaded cancers. This alone should be enough to make people want to quit. But often, they just keep right on smoking. The mental habit of it is even more powerful than the physical addiction. But wouldn’t the promise of death outweigh even the mental addiction?

To truly quit, you would have to change the way that you see cigarettes. See them as a source of cancer and poverty. That’s what they really are. See them as something that alienates you from non-smokers. Or as something that forces you to go outside and into the cold winter air just to get a quick fix. See them as the kind of legal drug that they are.

Smoking will cost you many times more what the benefits are. And you never know just how much of a cost it could ultimately be. At $ 7 a pack and a pack a day, 10 years of smoking would cost you around $ 25,000. That’s a lot of money to spend just to slowly kill yourself.

January 2nd, 2010

If you smoke, you know how difficult it is to Quit Smoking. How many times have you said to yourself or to your friends or family that you are going to quit smoking today or tomorrow or even next week with no such luck, or I’m going to join a Stop Smoking Program and never do. People do not understand that nicotine is a drug and it is addictive and its not easy to quit. After all the times of saying you will quit and you can’t its because the addictions remains.

Lets take a closer look at the Effects of Smoking. Smoking has an injurious effect on most all of ones body parts. Its not so hard to believe but the biggest risk is to your lungs as they are affected most adversely and whats funny is, the most addicted smokers know the risk of lung cancer and continue to smoke.

But there is much more than one might know, smoking can adversely affect your hair, brain, eyes, nose, skin, teeth, mouth and throat, hands, esophagus, respiratory system and lungs, cardiovascular system, liver, abdomen, kidneys and bladder, male reproductive system, bones, blood, immune system, and your legs and feet.

So, how important is your health to you? Do you really want to Stop Smoking? There are so many different programs on the market today, what works for one may not work for another, and based on reasons for wanting to quit. Is it out of demand, illness or do you just have the pure desire to quit?

When searching for a quit smoking program, you will want to look at the pros and cons and warnings associated with each program, do they use medication, meditation or what is the primary methodology to guide you to break your addiction.

You will be amazed at how many diverse stop smoking programs are out on the market today. The big question is, do you really honestly want to quit? If you answered yes, then you and only you need to get a handle on your addiction. Find the program that feels best for you and go for it. It only takes a short period of time to break the chemical dependency to nicotine, it’s the habits that is hard, or when you are stressed or happy or other triggers that make you want to smoke. Have a great attitude, and confidence in yourself that you can quit this horrible addiction and you will do it. In my research I have come across an amazing book, “Freedom From Smoking” which you can obtain by Clicking Here.

Have much success with your quit smoking program, it may become stressful at times, but stay strong and know that your health is worth it. Do it Now, because your LIFE depends on it.

Cigar Smoking and the Danger for Your Health

January 1st, 2010

Everyone knows by now how risky it is to smoke cigarettes, but few know what effect smoking a cigar has. Is cigar smoking less or more dangerous than cigarettes are? Smoking cigars on a regular basis is dangerous for your health. Studies have shown that cigar smoking can cause cancers of the lungs, oral cavity, larynx and esophagus. More recent studies seem to indicate that pancreas cancer is also caused in some instances by cigar smoking. Heart and lung diseases have an increased risk of happening when you enjoy cigars by inhaling the smoke.

If you smoke cigars on a regular basis and you usually take in the smoke, your risks of having health problems increase a lot. Smoking just a few cigars each day will increase your risk of getting oral cancer by eight times, compared to a nonsmoker. If cigars are smoked just on special occasions however, we still don’t know if there are any significant risks. But, the effects of regular smoking are well documented and known by everyone.

Another thing that people wonder about is how addictive are cigars when compared with cigarettes. A lot of people are curious why people that smoke cigars are less likely to get addicted than those that smoke cigarettes. Since all tobacco products have nicotine in them, they can all produce addiction. You can use chewing tobacco for example, and you can get addicted just as easily as you would with cigarettes, since it contains nicotine. In the case of cigars, the truth is that a lot of its users aren’t used to take the smoke deeply in, so they are less likely to get addicted to them. In the case of cigarettes, the effect is opposite, with smokers inhaling the smoke, which makes it absorb faster. But, even if you inhale cigars superficially, there is still a good chance that they will become addicted.

You might be wondering why cigar smokers don’t do it more often if it’s so addictive. First of all, people take in the nicotine superficially when they smoke cigars, which cause a smaller absorption of the nicotine in the body. Second, you can’t find cigars as easily as you find cigarettes. In most cases they are considered luxury items, taken out and smoked during special occasions. But, if people smoke cigars regularly, they will surely become addicted. It doesn’t matter in which form the tobacco is smoked. As long as there is nicotine in it, it’s addictive. Smoking causes serious health problems in the long term.

Stop Smoking-Improve Your Health

January 1st, 2010

Many campaigns have been, and are being, conducted all over the world to educate people and help them to get rid of this addiction. Individual Governments, NGOs, and medical clinics conduct smoking cessation campaigns and awareness programs regularly. Campaigns by NGOs and medical clinics in different cities around the world carry the name of the city with messages to citizens to stop smoking or call for assistance for smoking cessation. For example, an awareness campaign in Dallas-Texas could be called Dallas Smoking Cessation or Stop Smoking in Dallas. But smokers will always be averse to quit smoking as the tobacco addiction is just like any other addiction like alcohol and drugs. The Smoking cessation programs educate smokers about the harmful effects of smoking to themselves and to the people around them including their loved ones. Chain smokers and people around them are more at risk than casual smokers. According to the WHO, smoking is one of the leading, but preventable causes of death the world over and estimates are that it is the cause of 5.4 million deaths every year. This has not only prompted Governments, but also NGOs and medical clinics to conduct regular campaigns in countries and cities the world over. Campaigns with banners, media ads, etc have catchy names, slogans, and messages like the example ‘Stop Smoking in Dallas’ mentioned earlier. But why is smoking so harmful and why are Governments, NGOs, and medical clinics so earnestly trying to stop smoking? The reason is that most smokers are not aware of the harmful effects of smoking, and even if they are, they are so addicted that they tend to ignore the truth. Smoking tobacco is the inhaling and exhaling smoke from cured leaves used in cigarettes. Some people smoke casually for temporary pleasure, or habitually due to an addiction to nicotine in tobacco, or social pressure. Research has ascertained that smoking causes emphysema, lung cancer, and cardiovascular or Heart disease among the many other problems. The WHO reports that smoking has killed over 100 million individuals worldwide in the twentieth century and has warned that it can kill over one billion people all over the world in the twenty first century. Cigarette smokers are not the only ones whose health is at risk, but also those around them, as they inhale the smoke that smokers exhale, and this harms their health, even if they are non-smokers. Although smoking is addictive and it is difficult to stop smoking, it is not impossible. Medical spas and clinics all over the world conduct de-addiction programs to assist people to quit smoking. The first step towards quitting smoking is to decide to quit smoking. The next step is to search for an NGO or medical spa and clinic in your city, which can help you to quit smoking. So a smoker in Dallas can search for a medical clinic on the Internet by searching for Dallas Smoking Cessation and a smoker in any other city can look for smoking cessation programs with their city name.

Health Effects of Smoking

January 1st, 2010

Smoking

Today we’re more aware about how bad smoking is for our health. Smoking is restricted or banned in almost all public places and cigarette companies are no longer allowed to advertise on TV, radio, and in many magazines. Almost everyone knows that smoking causes cancer, emphysema, and heart disease; that it can shorten your life by 10 years or more; and that the habit can cost a smoker thousands of dollars a year. It is also responsible for many other cancers and health problems.

These include lung disease, heart and blood vessel disease, stroke and cataracts. Women who smoke have a greater chance of certain pregnancy problems or having a baby die from sudden infant death syndrome. The message that ’smoking is bad for you’ is an old one, so not everyone gives it their full attention. The most common method of smoking today is through cigarettes, either industrially manufactured or rolled with loose tobacco and a rolling paper. Other forms, though not as common, are pipes, cigars and bongs. Smoking is one of the worst things kids or adults can do to their bodies.

Health Effects of Smoking

Lung problems-Lung cancer is a difficult cancer to treat – long term survival rates are poor. Smoking also increases the risk of oral, uterine, liver, kidney, bladder, stomach, and cervical cancers, and leukemia. The lung damage which causes emphysema is irreversible, and makes it extremely difficult to breathe.

Spontaneous abortion-A number of studies have shown that tobacco use is a significant factor in spontaneous abortions among pregnant smokers that it contributes to a number of other threats to the health of the fetus. Second-hand smoke appears to present an equal danger to the fetus, as one study noted that “heavy paternal smoking increased the risk of early pregnancy loss.

Bad skin. Because smoking restricts blood vessels, it can prevent oxygen and nutrients from getting to the skin — which is why smokers often appear pale and unhealthy. An Italian study also linked smoking to an increased risk of getting a type of skin rash called psoriasis.

Cancer-Smoking causes cancers of the bladder, oral cavity, pharynx, larynx (voice box), esophagus, cervix, kidney, lung, pancreas, and stomach, and causes acute myeloid leukemia. Rates of cancers related to cigarette smoking vary widely among members of racial/ethnic groups, but are generally highest in African-American men.

Way to quit smoking

Pick a quit day Choose a date within the next two or three weeks to quit. Having a deadline makes it easier to plan how you will handle the people, places and situations that make you want to smoke. Try to choose a time that is not particularly stressful. But don’t wait forever for the “perfect” day – pick a quit date now and work with it.

Make a plan. Preparing to quit is an important first step. There’s no one right way to stop smoking, but smokers who lay the groundwork are much more likely to succeed. Make a list of the people, places, and pastimes associated with your smoking — anything that “triggers” your behavior. One of the hardest things about being a regular smoker and then giving it up is that you’ll always know how good that after-dinner smoke tastes. Come up with a plan for coping with each of those triggers. For example, after a meal you may want to get up and take a walk — or brush your teeth. If a cigarette automatically appears in your mouth when you leave work at the end of the day, substitute a lollipop or a toothpick.

Niquitin Products-You provide the willpower – Niquitin can help with the cravings. The therapeutic nicotine in our patches, lozenges and gum help control the physical symptoms so you can concentrate on tackling the other aspects of quitting smoking.

Thus, it acts both as a relaxant and a stimulant. Cinchona officinalis treats edginess, nervous exhaustion, and indigestion. Daphne indica helps with tobacco cravings and inability to sleep. Plantago major produces an aversion for tobacco in those who chew it and cures neuralgia resulting from tobacco use. Calcarea phosphorica is used to treat headaches, hoarseness of voice, burning throat, and cough which are associated with tobacco smoking. Nux vomica is used as a restorative preparation, treating insomnia and irritability. The best thing about this product is that by using it, you get to conquer your smoking addiction in a natural way. Smoking – Elderly and Young

January 1st, 2010

Have you ever watched a 40’s or 50’s movie in black and white? I love them. They always have great story lines. What also is always present is the amount of cigarette smoking that went on in them.  Always a filter less cigarette. The cigarette smoking was always made to appear “romantic” and “high class”. The actors would always be dressed to the nines, with a drink in one hand, and a cigarette in the other. Who knew then what problems would lay ahead for many of those same smokers.

There are a lot of differences in the attitude of many years ago and today. The movies and advertisements of many years ago portrayed smoking as something as normal as breathing. Another fact is that the care packages that was sent to the US GI’s during WWII, all contained filter less cigarettes. Many of the older Veterans that I have taken care of have told me that they began smoking from those same cigarettes sent to the front lines. In contrast, anyone younger around the age of 40 years old and younger, have been brought up with the knowledge that tobacco is dangerous and should be avoided.

Smoking and other uses of tobacco, after a period of time, create a strong addiction. This compulsion to smoke is increased with the amount of time the smoker has been smoking. In most senior citizen smokers this has been a number of decades long.

So the next time you see an older person smoking, don’t be judgmental. Remember this: when they were younger they were told that nothing is wrong with smoking, and in a lot of ways they were bombarded with messages that smoking was actually GOOD for them. Maybe some day soon, people will not smoke and tobacco can be used for another reason. Like a new fuel source for instance.
