Eating on the Go – Avoid the Fast Food Trap!

December 31st, 2009

“I am on the go” – an expression we often hear, is often accompanied with a bad habit of poor eating choices. With a little bit of behavior change and discipline, ditching the fast food for a healthier alternative can easily be done.

If you are on a bad spiral of being ‘on the go’ coupled with unhealthy fast food eating habits, do yourself a favor and make a change. Here are some tips.

Your best bet is to ‘brown bag’ it. Follow this simple procedure:Step 1: Get a small size cooler, one big enough for a small freezer pack to keep food cool. Step 2: Pack your meals and snacks.

Okay, it is a little more involved than that. What to pack?

How to Avoid Buying Junk Food

November 20th, 2009

It makes logical sense that if you don’t buy snacks in the first place, they won’t end up at home. Unfortunately a lot of people use too many excuses for buying and keeping junk food on hand. You may have heard such excuses as “I need them for the kids” or “my husband likes to keep chocolates in the dresser.” These are direct reasons why you can’t help but to eat them now and again.

There are a lot of foods we know we should not be eating, and end up eating them on impulse. You have to learn to control your impulses. But we all know that controlling your impulses with the food in front of your face is almost impossible to deny. It’s a lot easier to go to the kitchen or to the car to get your snacks, versus, going t o store.

We know that impulse means “a sudden desire, urge or inclination.” From that we know that eventually the desire will go away quickly. So it is important to keep those junk foods out of the house, so by the time you would get them, the impulse has already dissipated. It is not good enough to use other people as an excuse to keep junk food in the house. If you are using your kids as an excuse, think about it. You know it’s unhealthy but you’re still willing to give it to your children? If you were a recovering alcoholic, would you keep alcohol around the house? The bottom line is everyone should have a healthy diet.
